30th September - Walk in the Park in pictures

Friday 30th September 2011 entered the record books as the hottest 30th September in England for over 100 years. After the coldest summer for 20 years this was an unexpected treat.

I had business near where I used to live and grew up and went for a walk in the nearby park. The trees are starting to turn into their autumn colours and some are losing their leaves. Many conkers and acorns were scattered on the grass giving the squirrels a feast to fatten them up before the winter.

The wildfowl on the lake were getting plenty of food from the extra visitors enjoying the weather.

Pigeons were hanging around on the path by the lake hoping for a few breadcrumbs to be dropped or thrown in their direction.

The atmospere amongst the mature trees was tranquil and peaceful promoting a great sense of well being.

The only sadness for me was that this was my Mum's favourite time of the year and we always went for a walk, shuffling through the dry leaves and by tradition taking a few conkers home with us.

I stuffed some conkers and acorns from Turkey Oak into the pockets of my waistcoat plus some of the curiously formed acorn cups to bring home.

B.K., In years past we were in England at this time of year and your pics brought back some very fond memories of my strolls around York.

Thank You
